Early Childhood Education

AKPIRC is proud to partner with RurAL CAP's Parents as Teachers (PAT) program.  PAT is a parent education and family support program serving familes with young children.

Parents are visited by PAT-certified parent educators trained to provide parents with information on brain development and ways in which parents can assist their children in reaching their full potential.  Parent educators provide information on each stage of development and fun acitvities to capture teachable moments in everyday life to enhance children's language development, intellectual growth, social development, and motor development.

Services:
Familes enrolled in the Parents as Teachers programs receive:

Personal Visits:  Parent educators share age appropriate child development and parenting information, help parents learn to observe their child, and address parenting concerns.

Parent Group Meetings:  Parents and children are given an opportunity to gather together to share information about parenting issues and child development.  Parents learn from and support each other, observe their children with other children, and practice parenting skills.

Screenings:  Children's overall development, health, hearing, and vision are all assessed to ensure children are developing appropriately.

Resource Referrals:  Parent educators are knowledgeable about other community resources and can provide information to families as appropriate.

Within the AKPIRC project there are two PAT programs; one in Anchorage and one in Glenallen. To find out information on these programs or if there is a PAT program in your community please contact Lisa Goneau-Danielson at 907.865.7334 or email at ldanielson@ruralcap.com
