Julie Jessel - AKPIRC Language and Cultural Liaison Trainer
Julie Jessal currently contracts with the AKPIRC as trainer and support to the Language and Cultural Liaison program. Prior to her retirement from the Anchorage School District (ASD) in 2006, she was the supervisor of the ASD Title I program, principal at Williwaw Elementary, and a classroom teacher in several elementary schools within the district. Through her various roles, Julie became increasingly aware of how the vital parent-school connection can be challenged by language and cultural barriers. Her work with the AKPIRC program, specifically the Language and Cultural Liaisons is dedicated to finding ways to address and overcome these barriers.
Julie is married to Joe Jessal, a contractor, and together they have four children. When not working with AKPIRC, Julie is often researching and otherwise involved in issues on behalf of her neighborhood community council.
